( PHOTOS) From Kaduna Bomb Blasts
Two
bomb blasts rocked Kaduna on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 claiming not less than 25
lives, police said.
The
first blast occurred along Isa Kaita road in central Kaduna which leads to the
popular Murtala Square.
The
attack was targeted at a prominent Islamic cleric, Dahiru Bauchi, who had
delivered Ramadan lecture at the Square.
Fortunately,
the sheikh escaped unhurt as the bomb, concealed in a red Volkswagen golf car
parked by the road side, went off.
An
eyewitness, Mr. Mohammed said, “As I speak to you now, I can see many bodies on
the ground.”
The
blast is the second targeting Mr. Bauchi in Kaduna State. In June, an explosion
occurred near his house, injuring one person.
The
Sheikh is a known critic of the extremist Boko Haram sect. It is however not
clear whether the group is responsible for the attack.
The
second attack, which occurred at Kawo area, was aimed at former Head of State
and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari.
Gunmen
rammed a vehicle into his convoy, firing shots at it. The report says two of
Gen. Buhari’s bodyguards were slightly wounded in the attack, he however
escaped unhurt.
