Nicki Minaj Apologises For Swearing at Thee 2014 EMAs.
Nicki Minaj apologised
for swearing while hosting an expletive-ridden ceremony at the 2014 MTV
European Music Awards (EMAs).
The
‘Anaconda’ hit maker started the Scottish-based show as she meant to go on by
dropping the F-bomb on two occasions in her opening line before saying sorry
for her language and joking she could do what she wants because she is the
host.
Speaking
to the audience at the SSE Hydro Arena after turning up on stage in a ruffled
dress complete with a 14ft train, she said: ‘What the f**k is good Glasgow?
It’s November and it’s the EMAs. Sit back, relax and get ready to turn the f**k
up.’
‘I’m
sorry if I cursed, but I am Nicki Minaj.’
But
the 31-year-old star, who picked up the Best Hip Hop accolade at the ceremony,
wasted no time in getting the crowd on her side as she threw out 1,000 free
drink vouchers, ‘Minaj Money’, which got the audience’s approval.
She
also wowed the crowd, who she referred to as ‘the Scots’ with a medley which
included some of legendary Scottish duo The Proclaimers’ 1988 hit ‘I’m Gonna Be
(500 Miles)’.
Despite
her expletives, Nicki proved to be a popular choice as host and took to her
Twitter account to retweet hundreds of positive remarks about her presenting
performance.
One
fan wrote: ‘honestly, I’m speechless about tonight queen, you’ve made mine and
many others night, congratulation (sic)’
Another
supporter posted: ‘you were so amazing tonight I love you so much (sic)’
Nicki
posted a picture of herself in the ruffled hem dress she arrived on stage in
and thanked the people of Scotland for giving her such a warm welcome at the
ceremony.
In
a caption attached to the image, she wrote: ‘This dress by Peter Hidalgo. MTV,
thank you. SCOTLAND, thank u. (sic)’
Nicki
also didn’t disappoint in the style stakes, changing her look no less than
eight times after coming in on wires in her outrageous ruffled outfit.
One Direction were the big winners on the night as they
won a hat-trick of awards – Best Pop, Best Live and Biggest Fan.
Accepting
the Biggest Fan accolade via video-link, Harry Styles paid
tribute to their supporters, known as Directioners, saying: ‘We’re so sorry we
can’t be with you tonight. Thank you so much for this, the award for Biggest
Fans.
‘Because
of that we obviously, obviously want to thank our incredible fans – thank you
so, so much for all your support. We can never thank you all enough.’
Ariana Grande won Best Female and Best Song for hit
‘Problem’, featuring Iggy Azela, while Justin Bieber got
the nod for the Best Male prize.
Katy Perry and 5 Seconds of Summer were
also among the winners, while Ozzy Osbourne took home the
Global Icon award.
